It’s not about being the best.
It’s about being better than you were yesterday.

Meeting Tyler’s brothers wasn’t so bad after all. I was a little star-struck, though, I guess you’d call it. They not only act alike with their broodiness, but they’re each incredibly good-looking in their own way too. I feel like they belong on their own reality TV show for beautiful people or something, or maybe a magazine spread on men ‘a cut above the standard.’ And their voices; Lord have mercy. Those guys have southern accents thick enough to give you goose bumps and make you wet. I wouldn’t be surprised if old ladies made the sign of the cross when listening to them speak.
I also liked it that they were blunt when asking who I was and admitting that they hadn’t heard of me. Honesty can be a hard trait to find in some people, especially when you first meet someone. Growing up with my dad it seemed like there were always fake people around since he was an NFL star. Ty’s brothers are like a breath of fresh air. You know exactly what you’re getting with them, and I couldn’t be happier with that fact.
I’m freaking out inside a little bit, though. I hope his brothers didn’t hear us in his room. That’s definitely not the sort of first impressions I want to make on his family. I know about his parents dying, the school and everyone else around has published articles on it, so his brothers’ opinions probably mean a great deal to him. Ty’s friends at school seem to like me, and I can only hope that his brothers will end up feeling the same way as well.
“Are you ready to do this?” Ty asks as we finish lining the rock path with plastic, solar-powered lanterns to lead all the party people in the right direction to the bonfire. He’s already brought out a bunch of wire hangers with a cooler full of hot dogs and marshmallows for everyone, along with some folding chairs for us two.
“I’m not much of a partier if you haven’t noticed, so I suppose I’m as ready as I can be. I’m glad we’re not far from the house, so if I get tired, I can just go to bed and not worry about getting kidnapped walking back to the dorms.”
Jesus, I sound so boring to my own ears. But I’ve never claimed to be a partier, and I’m not going to pretend to be someone that I’m not. I’ve already changed up my wardrobe here and there for Ty. Granted, he doesn’t know that I’ve done that for him, and I don’t want him to, but I did. He’s so gorgeous, and I was starting to feel frumpy around him sometimes, so now I alternate. One day I dress in Brianne’s cuter outfits and then the next I wear a pair of jeans and one of my super soft t-shirts. The funny thing is that Tyler compliments me whenever I’m wearing either type of outfit.
